Yes! The American Society of Interior Design (or ASID) is a professional organization that is committed to supporting professional designers and their clients. There is wonderful information on questions to ask your interior designer prior to hiring them. https://www.asid.org/find-a-pro
Correct. California is one of the few states that do not require a license to call yourself a designer. However Inspired Spaces requires that all designers have a professional certification. This means that our designers are held to a higher standard, and our clients can take comfort in knowing they have all been professionally trained.
The terms interior designer and interior decorator sometimes are used synonymously, but each has its own job description and function. Designers study people’s needs to create functional, living, work, or public spaces to satisfy those demands. Decorators furnish interior spaces with furniture and accessories, creating an aesthetic environment. Most states require an interior designer to obtain a license to practice, but an interior decorator isn’t required to do so. As a result, interior designers may decorate, but decorators are not permitted to design. Here at Inspired Spaces, we have both designers and decorators on staff.

We have found that it is the most straightforward to bill hourly. This way, the work is transparent and clients’ don’t pay for any work that we don’t do. However, before beginning any project, we give our clients an estimate for how many hours we believe it will take to complete. This estimate is based on past projects of similar size and scope and generally comes in extremely close to the final cost.
